No day of time
No year alone
No life of pain
Just a lifeless stone.
No tale once told
No dream once known
No tear once shed
Just a lifeless stone.
No song was sung
No seed was sown
No book was read
Just a lifeless stone.
A silent grave
A crumbled bone
A life unlived
Just a lifeless stone.

I was angry at my acquaintance (almost-friend, really) so I went for a walk through the cemetary to cool off. Then I saw one grave from the 1800s that went something like:
Samuel: 18 mths old Sept. - 1858
Joseph: 2 yrs old Jul. - 1860
Mary: 4 yrs old Dec. - 1863
Sarah: 2 weeks old - Jan. 1866
Eleanor: 1 yr old - Oct. 1866
and I burst into tears because it put everything in perspective. That's when I wrote the poem.
